Smart Sensing and Computer Vision Systems:

The Smart Sensing and Computer Vision (SSV) group is responsible for developing algorithms and real-time systems for active automotive safety, driver monitoring and robotics perception for flexible and intelligent manufacturing systems.

Sensor & Data Fusion Expert

Responsibilities

• Developing algorithms and conducting applied research in fusion of measurements from various sensors, using similar and different modalities (for example, camera/camera or radar/camera).
• Design and study fusion algorithms at different levels (raw data level, object and track level).
• Perform sensor modeling, testing and performance validation.
• Lead applied research efforts in fault diagnostics of multi-sensor systems, including sensor fault modeling, detection and isolation.

Qualifications

• Ph.D/ Msc in Electrical Engineering/ Aerospace Engineering / Computer Science/ Physics.
• More than 5 years of experience in leading and conducting applied research in the area of sensor and data fusion.
• System engineering background – a plus.
• Multiple publications (tech reports, papers and patents) in relevant areas.

Sensor Lab Engineer

Responsibilities

• Responsible for setting up and operating a Sensing and Vision laboratory, and testing infrastructure including specification and installation of sensors in the lab and on test vehicles.
• Conducting experiments for data collection or managing data collection efforts.
• Writing code for retrieval of collected data, communicating with various sensors via multiple communication protocols.
• Performing results analysis.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience in installing and using multiple types of sensors, including radars, lidars, IR sensors and vision systems - MUST
• Experience in developing software for data collection and sensor data analysis - MUST
• Academic background in Electrical/ Software/ Electro-Optical engineering.
• Ability to work with service providers.
• System administration background - a plus
• Automotive knowledge or robotics experience - a plus.
• Innovative and energetic spirit.

Range imaging (3D Vision) Expert

Responsibilities

• Conducting applied research on range or depth imaging systems for robotics and automotive applications.
• Identify emerging technologies, find partners, design new sensors and develop algorithms for analyzing data coming from range imaging sensors, including scanning 3D Lidars, flash Lidars, structured light cameras, stereo cameras etc.

Qualifications

• Ph.D/ Msc in Electrical Engineering/ Physics/ Electrical Engineering/ Computer Science.
• Proven experience in working on data obtained by range imaging sensors, such as Lidars or 3D cameras.
• Ph.D in a relevant field – a plus
• More than 5 years of experience in this domain
• Multiple publications (tech reports, papers and patents) in relevant areas.

Human Machine Interface:

The Human Machine Interface (HMI) group is responsible for developing and evaluating leading HMI technologies with special focus on speech technologies and adaptive HMI.

User Interface Specialist

Responsibilities

• Responsible for setting up and operating a basic driving simulator, including overall planning and execution of experimental work and collaborating with researchers in other countries with similar simulation capabilities.
• Publish scientific papers in the area of User Interface design for the automotive domain.

• Academic background from a human factors related discipline with experimental background, Ph.D – preferred.
• Interested in user interface evaluation methods, cultural ergonomics, user modeling, and/or voice user interfaces.
• Experience in multimodal interfaces and in transportation human factors is a plus.

Transportation Human Factors Engineer

Responsibilities

• Responsible for setting up and operating our HMI test vehicles, including overall planning and execution of experimental work and project management of technical work on the vehicles.
• Develop expertise in operating eye tracking systems and analyzing their data.
• Publish scientific papers in the area of transportation human factors, with focus on user experience.

Qualifications

• Ph.D from a human factors related discipline with experimental background and proven Transportation research abilities.
• Interested in user interface evaluation methods, adaptive HMI, and user modeling.
• Excellent hands-on technical abilities.
• B.Sc. in an engineering discipline - a plus.

Adaptive HMI

Responsibilities

• Responsible for theoretic and experimental work on adaptive interfaces, organization of information, adaptive automation, collaborative work, and in-vehicle automation.
• Deep knowledge of the literature and strong analytic abilities.

Qualifications

• Ph.D from a human factors related discipline / Computer Science with theoretical and experimental background.
• Interested in areas related to adaptive HMI and able to lead research with academic collaborators on this topic.
• Computer science background - preferred.

Wireless Enablers:

The Wireless Enablers group is responsible for developing solutions and algorithms in a broad scope of wireless technologies including UWB, 4G Cellular, Software Definable Radios, RFID, TCP/IP etc.

Internet Protocol (IP) Researcher

• A proven expert in internet protocols including Routing, Mobile IP, NAT and addressing schemes, QoS, Security, BW management and inter layer communication.
• Design and study the applications of Internet technology to the vehicular environment.
• Perform network modeling and simulations to validate the proposed solutions, create prototypes and proof of concepts for the proposed technologies.

Qualifications

• Msc/ Ph.D in Computer Science/ Electrical Engineering.
• Proven experience in leading and conducting applied research in the area of Internet Protocols.
• More than 5 years of experience in internet protocols (10 years desired).
• Multiple publications (standard contributions, tech reports, papers and patents) in relevant areas.

Wireless System Design and Communication Theory

Responsibilities

• A proven expert in communication theory and system level design of wireless systems.
• Experience in wireless access schemes (TDMA, CSMA, CDMA, OFDMA etc), Physical and/or MAC Layers, and Modem Design
• Study and analyze the implications of different wireless technologies to the vehicular environment.
• Work in close collaboration with the team members to invent, architect and validate vehicular wireless system level solutions.
• Design and study advanced MAC algorithm for vehicular systems.
• Research alternative methods of Ad Hoc network formation under various population densities and evaluate collaborative methods for infrastructure collaboration.

Qualifications

• Background in Electrical Engineering with proven experience in leading and conducting applied research in the area wireless modems, modulation, coding and wireless system performance including capacity, QoS, interference mobility and security.
• Ph.D in a relevant field – preferred.
• More than 5 years of experience in the design of wireless modem and wireless system design as well as multiple publications (tech reports, papers and patents) in these areas.

The Controls and Robotics group is responsible for developing advanced control algorithms in a variety of vehicle dynamical systems and for developing cognitive robotics and computational motor control for flexible and intelligent manufacturing systems.

Vehicle Control & Robotics Researcher

Responsibilities

• Advanced controls: linear, non-linear, optimal, adaptive, stochastic, hybrid, switching, fuzzy, etc.
• Smart materials based actuation and sensing
• Analog and digital signal processing advanced algorithms, including adaptive filtering (e.g., Wiener, Kalman)
• Robot control techniques: robust feedback linearization, adaptive control of rigid and flexible manipulators, sliding modes, Lyapunov based control, passivity based control, etc.
• Artificial intelligence algorithms
• Cognitive functions like perception, reasoning, decision making, fact generalization and learning applied to robotics

Candidates must have a Masters/Ph.D. in Electrical/Mechanical/Aeronautical Engineering/Computer Science, and a strong inclination towards applied research.

Experience in automotive/robotics applications is an advantage.
