Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Where can I find job openings for plants?
A: Hiring for GM hourly jobs (e.g., assembly line and other manufacturing production support work) is the responsibility of each individual plant or facility, based on the operational requirements of that location. As hourly job openings occur, GM first looks to fill positions with GM employees on lay off status in accordance with collective bargaining agreement provisions.
When there are additional openings available, we will post positions through the local state employment service (or other designated agencies, such as a local "Michigan Works!" agency in the state of Michigan) as a source for candidates. Job seekers are encouraged to register at the state employment service offices nearest the GM facilities where you are interested in working, and should update your registration periodically. You may also contact the employment offices of the plants directly for further information. We would suggest that you call the plant first before you walk in.
Q: Where can I find out about internships and co-op opportunities?
A: Our Student Program information can be found at: http://careers.gm.com/student-center.html
Internship/Co-op opportunities are usually posted by the end of August each year. Here you will also find information about campus entry-level and early career opportunities.
Q: Where can I find out about international opportunities?
A: First, visit careers.gm.com. Here you can choose your country of interest and explore opportunities available in the country or region.
Q: Do you have an email address that I can send my resume to?
A: The best way to be considered for a job is to either join our Talent Community or to apply directly to a position. We encourage you to apply to as many positions you are interested in and qualified for. To begin your job search in the U.S. or to join our Talent Community, visit https://search-careers.gm.com/.
Q: Can I sign up for job notifications?
A: Yes. As a member of our Talent Community, you can sign up for job notifications and RSS feeds. Visit https://search-careers.gm.com/ to get started.
Q: How do I submit my resume online?
A: To submit your credentials online, you will be required to create an account and candidate profile. The profile itself has several sections, ranging from work experience to self-identification questions, and allows us to evaluate your credentials against the requirements of positions. The entire process of creating a profile takes about 20 minutes. Once you have created the profile, you can attach a resume (see Resume Tips) and update your profile or resume with new information at any time.
When you submit your credentials online to a specific job, your data will be entered into our candidate database for potential matches. We encourage you to regularly review our open positions and attach your credentials to positions of interest.
