The Smart Sensing and Vision Systems group is responsible for developing perception algorithms and novel sensing systems for active automotive safety, autonomous driving, driver monitoring and robotics in flexible and intelligent manufacturing systems.

COMPUTER VISION RESEARCHER

This is a unique opportunity to define and lead development of next generation smart sensing systems for future vehicles developed across the world.

Responsibilities

The computer vision researcher will be engaged in solving multiple challenges in the area of perception for automotive applications, using novel computer vision and machine learning concepts. Sample challenges include object detection, classification and tracking from 2D and 3D cameras, scene understanding and event detection.

The computer vision researcher will work with colleagues at GM R&D and Engineering departments to identify challenges and possible solutions; will develop, test and validate computer vision systems internally at GM ATCI, and will define and lead external research projects with academy and industry labs. The researcher will be required to maintain a high academic level as measured by papers and patents, and strive to build prototypes to demonstrate the technical plausibility and merits of the solution proposed.

• MSc or PhD in Physics, Electrical Engineering or Computer Science.
• Proven, high quality research background (papers, reports, patents) in computer vision
• Background in machine learning and probabilistic models
• Experience in high-level vision and object recognition
• Experience in development of computer vision systems in the industry
• Experience in development of real-time vision systems
• Project management skills – an advantage

RADAR TECHNOLOGY RESEARCHER

This is a unique opportunity to define and lead development of next generation automotive radars for future vehicles developed across the world.

Responsibilities

The radar technology researcher would have to acquire knowledge and be closely familiar with the working principles of automotive radars. She/he should be familiar with the concepts, signal processing algorithms, technologies and components of radar systems and should be able to asses various tradeoffs of radar systems design. The radar technology researcher should track the development of novel radar systems, identify new technologies, launch and lead projects with partners in academy and industry for pushing the performance/cost envelopes of automotive radars technologies, and find the best solutions for challenges posed by future automotive concepts. She/he should be able to perform radar system engineering work, including requirements definitions, performance evaluation, integration with other sensing modalities, and management of applied research projects.

Qualifications

• Ph.D in Physics.
• Hands-on experience in research, simulation, development and testing of radar systems.
• Experience in radar algorithm development, implementation, optimization and testing.
• Radar systems design and engineering background including assessment of various system tradeoffs
• Experience in management of applied research projects.
• Wide knowledge on radar systems technologies, system approaches and signal processing concepts
• Proven research background (papers, reports, patents).

HUMAN MACHINE INTERFACE

The Human Machine Interface (HMI) group is responsible for developing leading HMI technologies for drivers and passengers and for tools and methods for creating them. Current areas of focus include Speech technologies and Contextual HMI. The HMI group is also working on the user interface and organization of information for vehicles with active new safety features and for automated driving.

WIRELESS ENABLERS

The Wireless group is responsible for developing solutions in a broad scope of wireless technologies such as long range 4G Cellular, direct V2V, shorter range Wigig and Wifi and wireless techniques to replace wires. Those techniques are being developed and experimented in the lab and in the test vehicles.

SENIOR WIRELESS COMMUNICATION RESEARCHER

The wireless communication expert will innovate, research and develop in these fields. She/ he will conduct applied research, as well as initiate and manage research projects in collaboration with other groups within GM, academia and industry research groups in Israel and abroad. She/he would engage with multinational team activities, collaborating with peers abroad, consulting on advanced engineering programs, track the development in this area and identify potential emerging technologies.

Qualifications

• Ph.D in Electrical Engineering or related Wireless field with proven research skills (academic papers, reports, patents).
• Expertise in one or more of the following: Information Theory, Wireless Communication, Cellular Systems, LTE, Protocol Stack.
• Several years of industrial experience.
• Wireless communications system view, knowledge and experience.
• Sound theoretical background.

SENIOR CLOUD RESEARCHER

The Cloud expert will initiate the cloud domain, to innovate, research and develop in this field. She/he conduct applied research, as well as initiate and manage research projects in collaboration with other groups within GM, academia and industry research groups in Israel and abroad. SENIOR RF RESEARCHER

This is a unique opportunity to influence and direct how future cars across the world will be built, and how related communication technologies/ solutions will be designed.

Responsibilities

The Senior RF Researcher will work on the various communication links associated with vehicles. She/ he would acquire knowledge in aspects of communication technologies such as cellular RF & antenna design, short range (near field) including simulation, propagation inside and outside the vehicle, front end design and RF aspects of various standards (LTE, Wifi, Wigig etc…).

The Senior RF Researcher would conduct independent applied research, as well as initiate and manage research projects in collaboration with other groups within GM, academia and industry research groups in Israel and abroad. Also, she/he would track the development in this area and identify new RF technologies.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience in RF system design
• Several years of experience in the RF field (not including study time)

Qualifications

• Ph.D., or at least a M.Sc. degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Aeronautical or Agricultural Engineering, Computer Science or Applied Mathematics
