General Motors Company, one of the world’s largest automakers, traces its roots back to 1908. GM has headquarters in the U.S. city of Detroit, Michigan, and 218,000 employees on six continents. In 2013, GM delivered nearly 10 million vehicles to customers around the world.
One of GM’s five regions is GM International (GMI). GMI covers close to 100 countries and territories in Africa, Asia Pacific and the Middle East. The region has more than half of the world’s population and accounts for nearly a quarter of motor vehicle sales.
GMI includes a mix of emerging and mature markets with growing middle classes and rising disposable incomes. This has created exciting opportunities for the world’s automakers as an increasing number of consumers move from two wheels to four.
To take advantage of the opportunities, GMI has more than 40,000 employees along with 35 manufacturing facilities. It also has several engineering and design centers and a pair of proving grounds that are tailoring GM products and technologies for local needs. Led by the Chevrolet brand, GMI markets sold more than 1.16 million vehicles in 2013.
GMI and its employees are focused on becoming a leader in what promises to remain one of the largest regional markets in the coming decades.

GM International Headquarters
GM International (GMI) opened its headquarters in Singapore at OUE Bayfront in August 2014. Singapore’s central location is enabling employees to conveniently reach out to GMI’s country markets to drive the company’s regional strategy for growth. GMI is also benefiting from Singapore’s vibrant business environment as well as its world-class infrastructure and strong base of human resources.
The headquarters of GMI is the working home for approximately 200 staff. They represent a range of functions, including Sales and Marketing, Product Planning, Finance, Government Relations, Human Resources, IT, Legal and Communications. In addition, the office is the home of the local branch of GM Overseas Distribution Corp. (ODC) and a GM IT global “maintain” hub.
GMI has an open office environment at its headquarters. There are separate areas for collaboration, small rooms for conference calls and meetings, a quiet zone, a library, and a “townhall area” for meals and employee interaction. This is allowing staff to maximize their efficiency while fostering teamwork within departments and across functions.
